Hello,
I have to convince the technical staff and managing staff of my company
that MUS and director 8 are better suited for doing collaborating stuff
(sharing a graphical white-board, do some processing on images, reinject
them into the server while the other users continue to attend the
conference, resend the processed
image to all attendees, and so on...) that NetMeeting.
The managing staff like the idea of a Microsoft product, free moreover,
which comes without plug-in and integrates seamlessly with IE5 browser.
The technical staff argues with me on the real-time and
videoconferencing. I reply they can't do image processing and reinject
on the server...
Well, yes indeed they said, with the 'SDK and channel' programming
instaling a server-side COM component which, they said is impossible
with MUS and shockwave.
Regarding this, they claim that the creation of COM object is easier and
more deployable due to UML method and that is a very clean and
evolutive solution.
As for me, there is a critical point : my 3000 users have no install
privileges and I don't want to allow them. So, it is critical for me to
install once and for all the latest shockwave plug-in.
Is there automatic solutions to upgrade it on a post with no-install
permission.
Is it possible to go from a text chat to an audio one without
downloading anything ("tabasco" example ?)
Can you help me to counterargue these points in favor of Neetmeeting 3:
- it is free
- sharing applications easily (word, excel)
- performance issue (real-time)
- security issue
- standard compliance (Netmeeting 3 whiteboard T.120 I think)
- no plug-in to download
- existence of a SDK
- video-conferencing
- deployment on an intranet of 3000 computers and concurrent access
- Prestigious clients with reliable and day to day use : * Boeing, Ford,
Dow chemical, John Deere, Filenet
For me, one possible great advantage of director is (perhaps) the
possibility of mixing imaging lingo, MUS, audio, video Xtra (but always
the problem of downloading)
If no, is it foreseen in Director 9 ? (realvideo 8, streaming)
If no, is there a way with mixing with ultradev and how ?
Help
Thanks
