Hi, I have a project and it seems that the DirectMedia Xtra is going
to solve a lot of my problems with MPEG video. The question I have is
how to test to see if the user's machine has Directshow installed so
that it can be used. Is it like looking for Acrobat by searching the
registry? How would one go about doing this? I am not a registry or
programming whiz and some of this seems pretty straightforward and
some is completely a mystery to me.

Also I am wondering how to clear memory, so that the user's system
doesn't bog down at certain times. This client has 281 megs of mpeg
video on the CD. Only one movie will be playing at anyone time. Except
for a background sound track which will stop when an mpeg is playing.
Sorry for all the questions, but I am fairly new to this process.

Any and all help is much appreciated.
thanks, James
