You can make the stage invisible with "Set the visible of the stage to 0",
but this will make all your sprites invisible as well.

But you can fake the whole thing. I made a game once where I did a screen
grab of the user's desktop and put this into a MIAW set to fill the monitor
completely. Then I had sprites animating on the fake desktop (a bit like a
the 'bad dog' module on an old After Dark screensaver - the sprites would
write graffiti on the desktop, etc).
