1. PLEASE quote sparingly (this refers to the people carrying on the
"email" thread).

To "quote sparingly" means to cut out all the unnecessary stuff, especially
the repetitious "Lingo-L" footers applied to every message.

The digests are excessively large for no reason other than some people
being markedly inconsiderate, ignorant, or lazy.

Even in the case of quoting the material from another user, please delete
anything that isn't relevant to understanding your answer.

Good rule of thumb:

You should quote fewer lines than the number of new lines you type in response.

2. And for those of you with 20 line signatures, please get a software
program like Eudora that makes it easy to disable or change your signature
each time you send individual messages. We really don't need to read the
same lengthy signature 5 times in the same digest. I try to eliminate my
signature unless I am referring someone to a URL that is part of my sig.
(granted sometimes I forget)

The standard rule of thumb is to keep signatures to 6 lines or less,
certainly less than 10!

3. I've completely given up on people not asking the same questions that
have been asked and answered repeatedly, often on the same day. But
consider checking the archives of Direct-L for questions like "How do I
change the icon on the Mac". FYI, 90% of the questions, including the ones
about icons, floating point math, rounding, etc. are answered in LiaN and
DiaN.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Regards,
Bruce
