Gary is great! His book is great! No Dir 8 specific stuff, just 
fundamentally sound game programming for Director.

The games are "play-able" right off the CD-ROM, but I believe one of 
Gary's goals was to get reader's involved so they can add features 
and really get into the nitty-gritty of developing with Director. 
Luckily, that is how I learn stuff -- by doing.

If you want more specific stuff look to 
http://www.director-online.com for more articles from Gary! He has 
been publishing articles regularly (weekly?) for a while, and 
although I have not found all the articles immediately useful, they 
ALWAYS have code that makes me re-think some of my past coding. 
Different perspectives are always helpful to reveal things I am doing 
inefficiently.
