Hi all,

We've made a series of educational CD-ROMs that contain a lot of narration
(PCM,22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono). All narration is stored as externally linked
.wavs on the CD. Rather than placing the narration in a sound channel, we
simply have a basic handler like this:

on exitFrame
    puppetSound "whatever"
end

The problem is on some machines, the narration appears to cut out or clip
before the .wav has finished playing. We've upgraded to Dir7.2 and are using
DirectSound. I've wondered if this is the route of the problem? It seems
weird that it only effects some machines (this suggests that it may be a
driver/hardware problem rather than anything wrong with Director).

I just wondered if anyone else has heard of any problem like this before.
I'm about to test the offending projects again but use macroMix, QT3Mix and
play around with switching the soundKeepDevice on and off to see if we get
the same results.

anyone know of this prob? is there a way of coding sound in Director that is
'safer', that is less likely to cause problems across a greater spec of PC?

any thoughts greatly appreciated.

regards,
