No way.

Is it an older beige g3? I've got one that I took the motherboard and put it
in a 9bay ATX case. The older beige macs had both 2 ide chains
(master/slave) and an internal/external scsi chain. The hard drive and
cd-rom that came with it are both masters of their own ide chain (domain?).
It's really simple to just take another ide drive, set it for slave and slap
it onto one of those chains. OR get a scsi drive and put it in the internal
scsi chain. I've done both.
