Well, it can certainly be done, but depending on how great you want it to
be, you may be spending a fair amount of time developing it.
I've done much of the architecture and Lingo development, and some Xtra
development, for Kodak Picture CD and Kodak PicturesNow/Kodak Picture
Software. If you order Kodak Picture CD nowadays you'll see that's it's
actually a Director app.
I doubt you want to import the photos themselves, unless you want to run
out of memory, particularly on the Mac. For a lot of this, though, you
will be needing Xtras. You can use Director's imaging lingo, but its image
quality interpolation methods aren't the greatest. To do it pixel by pixel
in Lingo would take forever, and the automatic functionality may not have
the photo quality you want.
Of course, a lot depends on the size of the photo images. If you're
working with full 500k to 1024k jpeg images as we do, that's a lot more
memory and processing than if you have a 30k image.
Presuming it's a commercial product, you'll probably want to use Xtras,
unless it's Windows only in which case you might be able to get your hands
on some ActiveX stuff.
