Not sure how far you have gotten with this dilemma as I didn't catch most of
the thread but, recently I re-posted a solution to checking for QuickTime on
an end users machine and then installing it if it was not found.  No 3rd
party extras involved.

This code was inclusive in the first frame of my movie and the installers
came directly from the developers downloads on QuickTime's web page.  I am
sure I could dig up the thread to direct you, but I am certain I pulled the
code from Director-Online initially so check there too.
