Hullo, I sent this a while ago but it has never been posted. I'd really
appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm not a well-versed lingo boffin yet as I've
only been developing in Director for one an a half years, so please bear
with me. I have quite a lingo heavy job to do within the next few days
and no one here who can really help me at this level.
Firstly, to begin with, the product I am making will be run off
individual machines and not connected to a server (that will come
later!). I am using Director 8.
The product is a brochure (comprising over 100 purchasable items) that
is to be used by the salesmen of the company. This part has been created
already and is up and running. Now what I need is to be able to do a
type of "shopping basket", that is, retrieve from a database the
particular items required, put them into a spreadsheet-type of interface
where the user can insert the prices of each item, plus the tax
percentage and will get a total just like in Excel, (now, I know of math
lingo etc..). Further to that the user will then have to print out the
final page, with picture, description, clients address, costings, etc.
Is this a very advanced job I have taken on? I was looking at using the
TableMaker xtra by Xtra Media for the spreadsheet stuff and V12
Database. But then how to link the two together, and Xtra Media says
that I could dump stuff (with lingo) from their TableMaker into Excel
and print from there, or alternatively print from the TableMaker
directly, again thru Lingo.
I want to know, before I spend so much money on purchasing these xtras
if this combination is going to work, taking into consideration that my
knowledge of Lingo is basic and I will be learning in the fly.
Actually, I'm desperate now and would appreciate any help.
Many thanks in advance
