You just answered your own question, if in fact these Xtras were made in the
D5 & D6 era, then they will not be setup for proper downloading under SW 7
and above. SW 7 setup a new scheme for marking Xtras as Shockwave Safe and
as such older Xtras that have not been rebuilt and packaged for SW7 or above
will not download and will therefore generate SW errors. In these cases,
you can further deduce whether or not the Xtras are shockwave safe by simply
copying them into the Xtras folder of the Shockwave install. If you still
recieve the SW errors relating to these Xtras, then the Xtras are definitely
not SW safe. This final test would denote whether the Xtras themselves are
SW safe and useable in SW.
You should test as follows:
1). Copy the Xtras into the SW Xtras folder and then load your stuff. If the
SW errors still occur, the Xtras themselves are most likely not marked as SW
safe and will not function under SW 7 or above
2). If after doing 1) above, the errors disappear, then make sure that there
are SW Xtra packages available for these Xtras and make sure that those
packages are properly referenced in your XtraInfo.txt file (test using the
complete URL in a web browser, the package should download) -> assumption
here is that there are SW downloadable packages available either from the
Xtra programmer or that you have them avaiable on your server (typically
these end in .w32 for a pc -> not the .x32 for the actual Xtra)
3). If 1 & 2 above are successful, then make sure that you have designated
the Xtras to download if necessary under Modify -> Movies -> Xtras (if the
box is checked, uncheck it, then close the dialogue, perform a save and
compact. Reopen the dialogue, select the Xtra and then recheck the download
if needed box, if you recieve an error at this point, it means that Director
can't see the Internet or the URL specified in the XtraInfo.txt file is not
valid
4). If all of the above work, then I'm not sure what is happening.
Hope this helps
Sincerely
