I have been dealing with this for two years now and the only acceptable
solution is to do this via a card reader or in some cases (like Sony
Cybershot) via the USB driver of the camera. In both cases, the
card/camera is mounted as a volume and importing pics from a volume is
easy. But beware: some cameras featuring USB won't mount, they just have
a program for transfering data via USB - useless unless you want the
user to switch between your application and the camera program. On
Macintosh there is another problem: the user will normally just pull out
the card of the card reader and because of the very bad drivers of
almost all card readers, the Mac won't notice it. This may in many cases
lead to a system crash. Not with the Sony Cybershot - so - although I am
not a Sony fan - if You can choose a camera, choose one of those,
because the driver is fantastic.
regards, Florian
