I have seen this with a corrupted castmember.
Generally, the movie in question has one castmember (your job to figure out
which!), whose stored data properties are corrupted, and it makes Director
think it is out of memory. Note that you are not really out of memory, but
Director is trying to load a castmember that has corrupt data, and is
telling Director to load a huge amount of memory (like 2 gig). Of course,
you don't have 2 gig of working memory, so Director says you're out of memory.
The castmember is almost always a sprite Xtra castmember, whether
AlphaMania (what we used to have the problem with), or a custom cursor, or
something else.
On rare occasions, it's the whole movie that's corrupted, but I'd start
with any custom loaded Xtras in the cast.
All you can do is go by process of elimination. Either piece-by-piece copy
everything thing to a new movie, or, alternatively, make a copy of your
movie, then open it up, then each time delete one of the custom castmembers
and save it out again, and reopen, until you find the one that's causing
the problem.
