I think it depends on the number of socket connections a browser has. Aren't
most browsers defaulted to 4 socket connections??? A user can of course
change this.

Anyway I have never needed to exceed more than 2 simultaneous downloads or
uploads at once (to be on the safe side). Whenever I had to do a bunch of
downloads or uploads then I created an object that monitored the
download/upload status and whenever one was complete I would simply cue up
the next download/upload. I could have probably pushed the limit to 4
simultaneous downloads/uploads though.
