An easy way is to use a font that has been modified so that every character
appears as a "*" character. It may not be as secure as trapping keys, but it
does mean that the input field behaves like an ordinary field - ie. the
arrow keys, selections, delete keys etc all behave like they should. You can
download an example dir movie with a modifed font from
