For other reasons you might, but Flash support was there in D6.02
with an optional Xtra, and for anyone in D6.5. To play a Flash movie
in a window you have two choices. You could open the SWF file using
Flash Player (from any version of Director), or you could place the
Flash sprite onto a stage of the same size, save that as its own
Director movie, and then play it by saying:
open window "flash in director file name"
