yes - opening the MIAW kills the playing sounds.

open the MIAWs at the same time as the stage - have them sit on an 
empty first frame & set them invisible until you need them

play all your sounds in your stage movie

when you need the MIAW, make it visible and tell the playhead to move onward

for more trickery, look up the TELL command in the Lingo Dict -
It's essential for MIAW work.
