Yes - it sounds fine output from everywhere - directly from the VHS, in
the sound panel, and when it is capturing -- the sound panel shows the
sound bouncing into the red - just as it does when it comes out clipped.
You only hear/see the clipping from the captured themselves AFTER
capturing ...  If I reduce the gain it improves but not enough to
eliminate the clipping.
