You should be able to Insert/Media Element/QuickTIme 3 to get a blank 
QuickTime cast member. Once you've done that, go into its info 
dialog, and options, until you see the Browse button. Click on that, 
and point at the file, which should be named with .MID as an 
extension (actually, it doesn't matter on a Mac, but it may on a PC). 
When you select that you should get a question asking you what to 
name the converted file. Name it with a .mov extension.

For example, you Browse to the file named "my great composition.mid", 
and name it something like "what a fab piece.mov". It doesn't matter 
much, so long as the .mov part is there. You should by now have a 
QuickTime cast member version of your MIDI file.

There may be a problem with your file. If you like, feel free to send 
a copy to me to try (not to the list).
