The QuickTime movie will "take priority" if it is set to display
"direct-to-stage" (which is the most efficient display option). Disabling
this, either through changing the castmember properties, or using the Lingo
directToStage flag, will make it render as a regular sprite, to the
possible detriment of the frame rate.

Either using cue points (look them up) or by checking the movieTime
property of the sprite - which one you use depends on your programming
method/preference.

Yes, though I don't understand exactly what you're asking.

Depends on how you did it, and what platform. Macintosh might give you a
white flicker. What's in between the two movies? What sort of flicker?

Director can preload only the header of the movie, not the whole movie; the
answer would require more information about how large the movies are, where
they are (CD, hard drive, etc.), platform, and so on. Try setting the
properties on the castmember for 'enable preload' and if that doesn't do
it, also change the unload to be "last" (better not to use never if possible).
