try just

open "program" with "Acrobat Reader"

one thing you need to take into account is that the path to "program" is the path as 
seen from Acrobat Reader.  If "program" is
going to be in the root folder of a CD-ROM, you can use

open ":program" with "Acrobat Reader"

but it will only work from a root folder.

I'm using the lingo:

open the moviePath & "program" with the moviePath
"Acrobat Reader"

The movie, pdf, and Acrobat are all in the same
folder.  Acrobat launches but it doesn't open the
document.  This is on a Mac running OS 9.1 with
Director 8.5.  Any help much appreciated.
