Photoshop is easier and more powerful than Fireworks if you know how to use it.  It's 
simply a matter of which program a person has
used more and is more comfortable with.

not that I want to defend PS or anything , but you can export from
it via save for web then select 24bit png and select alpha , you get
exactly the same results as in fireworks
