Tanya,

Actually, there are a few things that I'd like to point out to you. The
first is that your syntax is incorrect. The command is actually "open"
not play. See this MSDN article for more information:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc
/platform/shell/shell_basics/autoplay_works.asp

Secondly, however, I don't know if you are going about this in the right
way to begin with. One short-coming that I foresee cropping up is when
you run your CD on a computer without Acrobat reader (or a similar
program associated with pdf files) installed on it. The autorun will
open a "Select reader for files of type '.pdf'" window, and they won't
see the PDF at all.

A better solution would be to write a projector in Director that will
check for the existence of Acrobat before doing anything. If Acrobat is
installed, it can open your pdf and exit the projector. If it is not
installed, you could prompt the user to install Acrobat, and then open
your PDF file. This would be much more user friendly, and cover your
bases. You would need to use an XTRA like Buddy API to do something
along these lines.
