Hello everyone,
I'm gearing up to do a bunch of different projects that involve
cross-platform video CDs. Basically, they'll be a simple interface after a
video has played that will have links, info, etc., but mainly, these CDs will
be a director projector vehicle for a full screen digital video streaming off
it.
Below I've listed what I understand to be the best approach (that I know of)
for setting up the video configuration. I wanted to welcome comments from
those in-the-know if there was anything more I should consider before getting
too comfortable with this system.
1) I've read in numerous places that MPEG-1 is perhaps the most common and
reasonable compression for the videos if I end up using DirectMediaXtra
(which I will, see 3 below)
2) When compressing the MPEG-1 with Cleaner, I should limit the bit rate to
something in the neiborhood of 224 kbits/s to be sure it will stream okay
from a 4X CD ROM drive and up.
3) The best MPEG player xtra for the Windows side is usually
DirectMediaXtra, so I should set up a Windows cast if it detects that
platform. (and as is typical with DirectMediaXtra, you have to have the
recommended lingo.ini and [projector name].ini on the root level for the best
playback.)
4) For the Mac side you just need the Mac cast to have the linked MPEGs
enbedded. (quicktime rules!)
5) I hear the best full screen size is a 320 x 240 digital movie doubled to
640 x 480.
If anyone else has noticed something I'm completely forgetting about, or just
a better configuration altogether, please let me know! Thanks for your time.
Dave
