You will need to check the point that the user clicked, and then popup
your menu that way.  From Director 8 help:

the clickLoc
Function; identifies as a point the last place on the screen where the
mouse was clicked.

Grab that point, and then popup your menu based on it (typically the
point becomes the top-left corner of your popup menu). This could,
however, become a rather intense exercise in OOP and possibly imaging
Lingo, which I am guessing from your post you may not be up to.

The other option: Popup Xtra.  I haven't used it, but it sounds like it
will do exactly what you need.  Here's the link, and I'm sure Al will be
