Neil, Welcome to the wonder wacky world of Lingo. It's not clear from your post, but I'll assume that the "inc' handler is in a behavior. If you, then you can communicate with it by issuing a "sendSprite" command:
sendSprite(theChannelNumberYouWantToSendTo, #theHandlerName, parameters) or in your case: sendSprite(Player1Bat, #inc, Amount) This isn't as you said "sharing" handlers, instead, it is a way for one handler to call a handler that is in a behavior attached to sprite.
