Then PLEASE don't use an autoresponder this week, or unsubscribe
temporarily, or exclude Lingo-L from autoresponders.
Autoresponders create mail loops. Someone posts a message to Lingo-L
("problem with my handler"). You get the "problem with my handler" message
and your autoresponder sends a message back to Lingo-L "hi, I'm on
vacation, I'll answer your mail when I get back". Lingo-L receives that
message as a regular post, and sends it out to everyone, INCLUDING
YOU. You get this mail from Lingo-L, which is actually your own original
autoresponse message, but you see the mail from Lingo-L and send a message
back "hi, I'm on vacation, I'll answer your mail when I get back", and it
goes on and on.
Then people start complaining, "who is this guy", and you get each of THOSE
messages and autorespond to those, and put MORE messages in the system,
which come back to you and your respond to each of THOSE and it just gets
worse and worse and you end up having 3000 people all mad at you because
you used an autoresponder on a maillist.
Don't let this happen to you!! Friends don't let friends use autoresponders.
Thanks
