Your method is an improvement over what I was doing. The method I used was
to copy the float to a temp variable, convert the original float to a
integer and check to see if the integer is larger than the original float
value. If it is, then subtract 1.

Erm, if you just want the number truncated down to an integer, can't you
just subtract 0.5 from the floating point value before you convert it to an
integer?
e.g. Integer(5.9 - 0.5) = 5
Integer(5.4 - 0.5) = 5
Is this what you needed?
