DVDs will play audioCDs but audio CD will not play DVDs I believe as they have different lazer wavelengths. They made DVD to be backward compatible. There is a thing called hybridDVD which is essentially a DVD glued onto an audioCD physically, but these i believe have problems playing in slot loading audioCD. i made some enquiries a while back and that's all I could find.
