This means, though, that the Word doc needs to be saved as a RTF, no?? Im
trying to make it as painless as possible for the user, i.e. they can link
directly to their .doc files. I'm not holding my breath that this can be
done, though...

You can import RTF files into Director. Even tables work - although you
can't really modify them in Director afterwards as that functionality isn't
supported in Director.
