We had an interesting, but time consuming problem with our Outlook e-mail yesterday. The problem arose because the database for Outlook reached 16 GB in size, and it can't function after that. I guess it's some sort of Windows limitation.
Anyway, the solution is to delete lots of messages, but to do that you have to be able to use Outlook, which can't start up because the database is at its limit. Obviously, losing 16 GB of mail wouldn't be a good thing, so the next tactic is to defrag the database. That was tried last night, without noticing that the program was defragging to the internal drive, which didn't have 16 GB free. In fact, I think it only had about 300 MB free. The process was started again this morning, and it looked like it was going to take about 40 hours to do its thing. It has sped up a bit, and was at around 50 percent done after eight hours. So, I'm curious, did this cause any problems on any of the lists I'm on? I've only subscribed to Lingo_L from my home account, because I was suffering from list withdrawal symptoms, and also I know from the past that it's more sensitive to e-mail issues than other lists. I think I'll be back to normal by tomorrow afternoon.
