January 7th, 2002 DirectXtras is pleased to announce a new version (2.0) of DirectImage Xtra, formerly known as DirectXport Xtra.
About DirectImage Xtra: ----------------------- DirectImage is a cross-platform (Windows and MacOS), easy to use Scripting Xtra for Macromedia Director and Shockwave that provides applications with the ability to export, import, capture and manipulate images. Using DirectImage Xtra, Director applications can perform the following tasks, directly from lingo: - Export image cast members or the Director stage into various image file formats, including JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PICT, PSD and many more. - Import image files into image cast members. The Xtra can read from more than 20 different image file formats. - Capture the screen image into an image cast member or file. - Convert an image from one format to another. - Change the color depth of an image to 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 bits with palette remapping and dithering support. - Resize, scale, magnify and minify images. - Flip, flop, roll, chop, crop and shave images. - Rotate and shear images. - Perform image processing effects: sharpen, oil paint, charcoal paint, implode, explode, motion blur, shade, spread, swirl, wave, raise, edge, emboss, solarize and more... - Get and set the image pixels and background color. - Flatten images with multiple layers. - Set the image transparency. DirectImage Xtra was designed in a way that it can easily be used in conjunction with our other Director Xtras : - Image cast members can be sent via e-mail as file attachments using our DirectEmail Xtra. - Image files can be imported from an FTP server using our DirectFTP Xtra, and image cast members can be exported to image files on the server. - An image cast member can be set as the desktop wallpaper using our DirectOS Xtra. DirectImage Xtra is Shockwave safe, so it can also be used with Shockwave 7 and above and when safety features in Director are turned on. When the Xtra is in safe mode it can import and export image files through built-in 'save-as' and 'open' dialog boxes from/to anywhere in the local machine, or without dialog boxes from/to the Shockwave support folder (DswMedia folder). An auto downloadable Shockwave safe package of DirectImage Xtra is also available. It is a compressed version of the Xtra that can be downloaded automatically from a web site to the user's local machine whenever needed, and once installed provides Shockwave applications on the web with the advanced imaging capabilities that the Xtra provides. DirectImage Xtra is available for Director 5 and above and is compatible with Windows XP, ME, 2000, 9X, NT and MacOS (PPC). Upgrades: --------- Developers who have licensed DirectXport Xtra in the past month or obtained a Corporate license will automatically receive the upgrade free of charge, via e-mail. Developers who have licensed DirectXport Xtra in the past but do not qualify for a free upgrade are entitled to an upgrading discount. Trial version: -------------- A fully functional evaluation version of DirectImage Xtra can be downloaded from our web site: http://www.directxtras.com/ . The trial version includes a sample Director movie that demonstrates some of the advanced imaging capabilities that the Xtra provides by allowing you to import or capture an image, manipulate and then save it back to file, at any of the supported formats. While downloading the Xtra, we invite you to take a look at the DirectXtras Gallery - to read about our other Xtras and how they are being used in real Director and Authorware applications. We encourage interested developers to download the trial version and look forward to your comments, suggestions, ideas and any questions you might have.
