A word from the Editor

Dear .......

It’s been estimated around 20 per cent of all tech workers in Australia are
contractors. Despite the critical role they play in filling gaps around the
country, they just aren’t feeling the love. A survey of 1,700 IT contractors
found they want to feel more supported by their bosses and a stronger sense of
connection to their fellow contractors. What can employers to do help?

Australia has a new tech lobby group. Calling itself the Tech Council of
Australia, the group boasts some high-profile tech heads at the helm: Atlassian
CEO Scott Farqhuar; Tesla chair Robyn Denholm; AfterPay CEO Anthony Eisen; and
Canva CEO Cliff Obrecht, to name a few. The Tech Council describes itself as
the “unified voice for the sector” and says its mission is to shape Australia’s
digital future.

In other news, a hacker steals $831m in a massive cryptocurrency heist but then
starts giving back the money; how this year’s online Census fared; why
brilliant women feel imposter syndrome; the perks employers must offer to keep
workers; what happens if you can no longer buy ransomware insurance; and what
the connected car means for the driver.
