Vice-Chancellor’s Democracy Forum
Join us as we examine the impacts global politics, big tech trends and
culture have on Australia at the UTS Vice-Chancellor’s Democracy Forum.
Between now and 2030, how will the use of technology by citizens,
civil society groups and governments affect core aspects of democracy
and democratic representation?
In the second edition of this event, the author of /Don't be Evil: How
Big Tech betrayed its Founding Principles and All of Us/, Rana
Forhoorar <https://www.ranaforoohar.com/> (Global Business Columnist,
Associate at the Financial Times and CNN's global economic
analyst) will explore with Emeritus Professor Roy Green,
<https://profiles.uts.edu.au/Roy.Green> the economics of Big Tech and
its importance to the future of democracy around the world.
Join Professor Green and Ms Foroohar as they dissect the current
global political climate in the context of major political events that
have occurred over the last four years – a time of the Brexit
decision in the United Kingdom, the American presidential election,
the COVID-19 pandemic and Australia’s recent attempts to both tax and
regulate the technology sector.
There is no doubt that the digital disruption of democracy is a
leading concern. Ms Foroohar's insights will offer clarity on how big
technology is a threat to liberal democracies everywhere.
Our online forum event will also include time to pose questions.
