Yes, with standardization we trade off innovation for other benefits.

Yes, when a standard is outdated, we revise or replace it.

But is this standardization is really needed for phone chargers? Customers are unlikely to switch between Apple and Android, so they can use their old charger.

Having two common types of charge socket is a lot better than the old days of one, or more, for each phone manufacturer.
