Communication, teamwork and other generic skills are the current mantra at universities. But this is not exactly new. I was updating my notes for helping teach in the ANU Techlauncher program, and realized I have been doing it for eight years. On Thursday 200 student listened to clients pitch their projects, then formed teams to implement them. There are also about 40 interns working in companies and government agencies.

The ANU Computer Science and IT building now has "The Hive", the ground floor of one wing set up like an industry co-working space, where teams can work, in the open plan space, and use the meeting rooms.
