I do wonder though, if we get to the point that all important documents are in a single device, what happens if someone loses their device, it gets stolen or confiscated by a representative of a government?

Aren't we pretty much there already?

I just counted, and I have 9 cards in my wallet.  8 of those I also have on my phone - the only exception is a gift card for a local supermarket (who does support using my phone, but I don't trust their security).

Those cards include drivers licenses from 2 different countries, and an ATM card, which are probably the only 3 things that I really need to still carry cards for, simply due to the electronic versions not yet being as well supported as the physical versions (my own banks ATMs support using my phone, but not all those for other banks/in other countries don't).  I do intend to try using my California electronic drivers license to pass through TSA airport security later this week - something that is now apparently supported (although if it fails it's not not a big issue, as I can still revert to just using my eyeprint or fingerprint to get through instead, still without the need to pull out my physical drivers license).

In fairness, not all of these are "digital wallets" (neither of my drivers licenses support being added to a Wallet, I need to open the respective apps to access them), so there is definitely room for improvement, but removing the need to actually carry a physical 'wallet' at all is very close to being possible, if not there already - I don't think it's going to take to 2030 for most people...

It's 2030, and digital wallets have replaced every card in our purses and
pockets

OpenWallet, now joined by Microsoft, looks to the near future when digital
wallets replace traditional wallets in the same way
    debit
    cards replaced checkbooks.
