Yes, when teaching sustainable computing I encourage students to find another reason, in addition to concern for the environment, to motivate action. This can be to save money, increase revenue, improve the organization's profile, or make their boss look good.

One example was where a student found their government agency had far too many printers. Cutting the number of printers would save energy and e-waste, and it would also cut capital and maintenance costs. In another case a department had many small servers, each not doing much, but using power. The student recommended the servers be consolidated.
