When I set the Link list up 30 years ago it rapidly became full of nerds
who would no doubt be able to recognise and parse this expression in a
twinkling of an eye and identify what it does -
^.?$|^(..+?)\1+$
I asked Perplexity AI and in two seconds got a two-page detailed
explanation. I asked Google and got a number of accurate hits.
I conclude that the expression is well-known.
OK guys, who is the Greek mathematician who is reputed to have invented
the algorithm this expresses?

Sounds like the previous failed strategy for an Australian car industry:
you pay a foreign company to assemble here. It is not in a company's
interests to foster an independent local industry, just take subsidies
from the Australian government to screw together imported parts. If the
Australian Government really wants an Australian industry, they need to
support Australian companies. There are opportunities to make missiles
which fit standardized launchers, as well as drones of all sizes.
Rockets and drones are something our students learn to make at university.
