Isn't cable in the US also the main provider of higher speed Internet access?
The scale and depth of their existing distribution network and more importantly the sheer volume of content [noise?] that is available makes any useful comparison with Oz fairly moot. More interesting might be the question of how small local cable content producers are exposing/repurposing their content via IP rather than or along with cable cable syndication deals. The better collarary for Australia might be post Soviet economic development.
