I suspect that even as Australian phone plans are finally starting to include 1Gb/month of data (on average, some plans still come with 50Mb/month), it still appears to lag behind the rest of the world. A quick look at Verizon USA had plans which included 2,4,6,8,10Gb of data. The starting point of 2Gb/month tells a whole story by itself. If a user puts down a phone without locking it and their newsfeed is automatically scrolling, I can see the data usage skyrocketing, and given how unforgiving the excess usage fees are on most Australian plans, it's not hard to imagine bill shock due to this new FB feature.
