I was wondering how they solve the phase synchonisation problem.

Unlike series DC, there's more to synching AC power sources than just 
wiring them together. If you get the phases wrong you get nasty side 
effects.

So I looked up micro-inverters and came across this:

The electronics and software are quite complex and, as Michael said, it 
needs high volumes to get the cost down.
