I don't begrudge the institutions doing the transference of international funds, as long as they aren't gougers (e.g. bank behaviour). They have a business to do that, including the communication systems, the staff, the risk, etc. It's better than hauling currency yourself and paying for the travel, etc. I'm just glad we live in an age where this is possible and that banks aren't the only option any more. I just wish I'd found out about it sooner. It wasn't until a bank I had been with for 15+ years that I got fed up with their greed. I keep very little of my funds in them. Just enough to pay bills. I don't intend to encourage them any more than I have to.
