If I'd known of blackstump before now, it would have qualified too, because May 
1995 was the endpoint I arbitrarily selected (because the site-counts exploded 
from then on).

Menus like blackstump were highly valuable at the time, given that the search 
engine phenomenon started only in Dec 1995 with Altavista (which committed 
suicide in 2000, leaving the field to the newcomer, Google).
