I think these days, it's officially NBN™. ;) Which may not display reliably, depending on your system.

Anyway, I've recently transferred my access to the so-called "Long-term Satellite Service" (LTSS) aka "Sky Muster" aka NBN 1a. While faster (when it works), I find it less reliable than the "Interim Satellite Service" (ISS) that it replaced. Teething problems perhaps, but I get the feeling that corners have been cut. They couldn't cancel the contracts to purchase the satellites, but I reckon they've skimped elsewhere.

The three-year plan is less a plan than a promotional exercise. With an election in the offing, they had to come up with something.

Mates of the current government will profit handsomely, at inestimable cost to the nation. I don't share your confidence that the private sector will build "a serious broadband network" for Australia. They couldn't even maintain the network they inherited.

While we're at it, please stop referring to the NBN. That name is just political spin for a repair job. An effort to make catching-up look like an exciting initiative.

We should probably stop talking about broadband as well; it's just the telecommunications network. The network must be viewed as a whole; concentrating on parts aids political obfuscation.
