Just got an email from ATO that this year we can't download ETax, we have to do it online on their mytax website. At least before I could download the software to my laptop at someone else's house if I had internet issues and do my tax in the comfort of my own home, check it and make sure it's all complete before filing it. Now they expect me to be online the entire time I'm doing my tax! So I have to either spend the entire time at someone else's house doing my tax if I want constant strong internet connection or do a paper return. They're going to get a paper return this year with a note attached to it explaining why I'm going back to prehistoric tax returns! The government insists on pushing everyone to do everything online but forget to provide suitable internet to do it.
