The deal to allow Qantas to use NBN satellites for in-flight Internet may technically have little impact on capacity, but it's seen in the bush as an insult. Proof positive, if any were needed, that neither nbn™ nor our government "get it".

Hey you all, just a little vent this morning about the #datadrought

The NBN has their new SkyMuster satellite up and going but we are really not getting good value for money. Our plan is dearer than with the previous satellite and our current 35GB peak and 50 GB off peak for $59.95 is not even getting us three weeks into the month.

The trouble is when you are homeschooling four children in a remote location from grades 10 to Kindy you really need to be able to access the internet. We can't just pop down the road to the library or McDonald's and use the free wifi. We can't just get into the library to borrow a book, so all research has to be done online, including the study load of what a certificate III course needs for research.

Ok so what do the children need to access the internet for?? Well we have SpellingCity, ArtVenture, MathsOnline, RazKids, NessyLearning, ReadingEggs, DyslexiaAid, KidoLand and BorrowBox. Then we have the multitude of YouTube clips we would like to watch like 'the magic e song', and 'tectonic plates' but we are generally experiencing problems even when we have full internet speed.

Master Bulldust14 is trying to make a movie at the moment for school and would like to download some songs. As we have already used our peak data our plan has been shaped so we are slower than a snail and most web pages just wont load. He waited up until 1am this morning to download a couple of songs. So when he came stomping down the stairs this morning I knew something was not successful. Apparently he waited until 1:07am oh yes that is the OFF PEAK TIME :( and the speed didn't improve so he just went to bed.

Master Bulldust6 is also getting some tutoring to help us moving forward with his dyslexia, for this I buy data blocks of 1GB for $5 just for him to get through a one hour session using FaceTime when we run out of our current plan. We are not allowed any more than 75GB in total (NBN policy) though I would never be able to afford that much anyway.

Than to hear that Qantas is able to have it's passengers access internet through the Skymuster satellite -- it is a slap in the face for anyone in remote locations trying to run schoolrooms to educate our future generations let alone to try and run business.

Come one #fairgo lets think realistically about letting our kids in the bush have a decent education, stop this #datadrought #bushkids #homeschooling #bindisnbulldust
