Fortran is an old language which is still around. It's come a long way since Fortran IV, and Fortran 95 is even available as standard on this Linux system. Later versions (2003 on) include support for such things as object-oriented programming and abstract interfaces. The GNU website - https://gcc.gnu.org/fortran/ - states "The GFortran compiler is fully compliant with the Fortran 95 Standard and includes legacy F77 support. In addition, a significant number of Fortran 2003 and Fortran 2008 features are implemented.". My latest programming project (:-) was to write a couple of extensions to the LibreOffice spreadsheet package in Java.
