I'm no expert, but I think a properly implemented browser should not allow 
Google or anyone else to track usage beyond their own website, unless of course 
they're using Google Chrome _and_ that browser monitors usage; I have no idea 
whether it does or not.

However tracking can be monitored to some extent by third parties with 
"tracking pixels" hidden in HTML.  Privacy Badger is designed to identify and 
disable them, and I see it has currently identified 1,375 potential tracking 
domains for me (I use Firefox).

Who knows what any given brand of smartphone software does?
