of a mile.  4G?  It ranges from three to 30 miles."

I don't think the author mentions absorption by water in its various forms.  
Signal propagation at those frequencies is heavily attenuated by rain, trees, 
and even fog.  And reception can be erratic anyway.  A rainy week might create 
some very disgruntled customers!
